A forester working in a managed woodland

What this resource covers

Foxbyfield publishes factual coverage of the Romanian forest sector — the rules governing how trees are felled and transported, how degraded land is replanted, how ownership is structured after four decades of state administration, and what those structures mean in practice for the condition of the country's woodland.

The focus is primarily on the Carpathian region — Romania's largest continuous forest zone — but articles address lowland, riparian, and sub-montane forest systems where relevant.

Sources and methodology

Articles draw on publicly available data from:

  • Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP) — annual sector reports, SUMAL statistics
  • Romsilva — management plan summaries and harvesting volume data
  • European Commission — EUDR implementation notices, LIFE programme evaluations
  • ICP Forests monitoring network — tree health and growth data
  • Peer-reviewed forestry research published in open-access journals
  • Reports by WWF Romania, Pro Silva Romania, and Environmental Investigation Agency

Where data are contested or uncertain, this is noted in the article text. Figures are attributed to their source and linked where an online version is available.
